The Sidewalk Certification procedure Can take three paths.
No Sidewalk You do not need an inspection. If your property does not have a sidewalk, unless if more than fifty percent (50%) of the frontage on your side of the street has sidewalks (per California Streets and Highways Code § 5875). Otherwise, you are not subject to the ordinance, you are not required to obtain a Sidewalk Compliance Certificate, and you do not require any documentation. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Permit Counter at DOTOnlinePermits@oaklandca.gov.
Good Sidewalk The initial inspection report with photos, a copy of the invoice and the sidewalk certificate of compliance has to be filed with the Oakland Public Works Department. Our fee to file and provide the compliance certificate is $275.00. (This fee includes the $84.92 Compliance certificate fee charged by the City of Oakland.) The compliance certificate is good for 5 years.
Bad Sidewalk If the sidewalk needs repairs in order to become certified, Gen-Tech Construction, Inc. will provide you with the original inspection report, photos, and estimate for the repairs. For sidewalks requiring repairs, the inspector will mark the area requiring repairs with white marking paint during their inspection.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not certify repairs by others/contractors on properties we have inspected.
